LAWRENCE, Kan. – Blue Valley senior Colton Donahue kept pace with the race leaders throughout the race and finished as the top Kansas runner at Saturday’s Rim Rock Classic. Donahue outkicked a couple contenders in the final 400 meters and captured fourth in a new PR time of 15:30, which is a vast improvement over the 16:10 he posted last week. “I just tried to stick with the leaders and see where I am from there,” Donahue said. “Once people started peeling off, I was like, ‘OK, I need to be right here if I want to get this.’ Staying with that group pushed me a lot harder and gave me a better time than I could have imagined.” Racing against a stout field, including some of the best Missouri runners, Donahue was able to test his mettle and challenge himself to continue to improve and get faster. “(The Missouri runners are) impressive, and I love to race with them,” Donahue said. “It helps me to get better so I can be the best in Kansas and try and win state this year. Getting this time in Kansas is going to help me a lot for state. I think I can win state if I have this time and keep improving.” Donahue should have even more confidence come state when he gets to return to the Rim Rock course.M More Coverage |
