League week is always a tough one to keep track of. With 82 team champions crowned across 38 different Leagues in 41 different cities & towns, there's often too much to digest as a track fan. From now on, team scores are the most important factor in every meet. Lucky for you, I have all the champions in one place, along with notes on all the results with state-level implications.
1A Leagues
For our 1A schools, all eyes fall on the Twin Valley. Axtell's Boys took care of business, while Clifton-Clyde's Girls surprised with a win over Washington & Hanover. To the West in the Northern Plains League, Osborne quietly handled business and looks to outmatch the TVL teams.
2A Leagues
In 2A, the headliner was the Heart of America, where Moundridge's boys got back on track with a win over Inman and Berean. Meanwhile, Garden Plain's boys & girls took down 3A heavyweight Wichita Trinity in the Central Plains League.
3A Leagues
As mentioned above, 3A boys favorites Wichita Trinity lost because their best athletes took the day off (c'mon, Knights). Wichita Collegiate also lost at AVCTL, while Holcomb's GWAC was cancelled. We'll know more about the boys race soon enough, with nearly every good team headed to the same regional. For the girls, the headline was Smoky Valley winning over Hesston for the Central Kansas title, while Phillipsburg took care of business at the Mid-Continent League.
4A Leagues
In 4A, the top teams are well-distributed among three leagues. Andale & Buhler looked strong winning their AVCTL division titles. Wamego's boys and Chapman's girls were convincing in their North Central Kansas Championships. Lastly, the Frontier League crowned Eudora's girls & Louisburg's boys.
5A Leagues
It's all private schools in 5A. St. James beat out St. Thomas Aquinas at the Eastern Kansas League in both boys' and girls' divisions. Kapaun Mt. Carmel did the same to Bishop Carroll at the Greater Wichita League. The Maize boys and Salina-South girls will carry the public school torch, each winning the AVCTL D1.
6A Leagues
6A's contenders will likely hail from the Sunflower League, where Olathe West's girls & Olathe North's boys were winners. Manhattan won the Centennial titles, with both teams looking strong.
