Thanks Seniors: Kansas' Athletes Gave Us Many Great Moments in 2016-17

Oh, so close...

Hutchinson senior Yazmine Wright saw a career-best effort come up just short in the class 6A girls 400 meter run. Her time was an impressive 55.51, just one-hundredths of a second behind Wichita Southeast junior Christal Mosley. Wright was the defending champion in the event and ran like it in an impressive state meet farewell. She was the runner-up in that event three times to go with the gold medal in 2016.

Victoria Robinson of Lansing closed out her high school career with four second-place finishes in a series of finish-line battles over the years. She was second in the 800 meters in 2017, 2016 and 2014, and second in the 400 this year.

Audrey Fisher of Olathe Northwest was a five-time state runner-up, three times in the triple jump, and once each in the high jump and long jump.

Connar Southard of Pittsburg had a solid senior season, narrowly missing out on defending his 2016 state title in the 800 meters. He finished second this year by .08 to Bishop Carroll junior Jason Irwin.

Dawson Miller of Washington County finished second in the class 2A boys javelin for the second year in a row. This year, he was the runner-up to a senior teammate, at least: Jerrod Hoover won the javelin and high jump in his final high school meet.
