Q&A with Jared Reimer of Goessel

Kansas Runners Q&A

Once a week during Cross Country season I will do a Q&A with an athlete from around the state.  One lucky runner from each class will be picked.  I've picked three runners that are the #1 runner on their team, and three runners that are the #5 runner on their team.

Athlete: Jared Reimer

School: Goessel (1A)
Grade: 12
PR’s: 5K – 17:44

KR: How did you get into Cross Country?
A:    I started my sophomore year plainly because most of my friends were doing it and it seemed to be pretty fun.

KR:  What do you like most about XC?
A:   Easily the team spirit of it and the competition no matter what level you are at.

KR:  Do you have any pre-race or pre-meet rituals/traditions as an individual or team?
A:  I personally always wear the same pair of socks every time I race.

KR:  How many miles per week do you typically run?
A: Summer training I will get up to 60-65 miles per week. During the season it’s more like 40-45 at peak training.

KR:  What is your favorite type of workout?
A: I like all the workouts but I would have to say that mile-repeats have a special place in my heart simply because it sucks but you know that you are pushing your limits with each one.

KR:  What is your favorite XC course/meet and why?
A:    Our team has one race at East Lake. The course is very flat and the competition is very fast all the time. Most of our runners PR there every time.

KR: Would you prefer to race in a muddy mess or on a super fast course?
A: I would prefer a super fast course because we would find out who was the toughest to keep such a fast pace the whole way.

KR:  What do you like to do outside of Cross Country?
A: Since I joined XC running has pretty much taken over just because I have learned to enjoy it so much but I also like to mountain bike, hike, and camping.

KR:  Who is your favorite college sports team?
A: KU

KR:  What do you think we could do in Kansas to make the sport better?
A: I think longer race distances for those that want them would help prepare those in high school who want to continue competing in college and for middle school athletes coming into high school.

KR: Finally, if you could have one super hero power, what would you want?
A: Invisibility or super-human strength.
