Girard's Cailie Logue again managed to sprint home to victory, as she beat Shawnee Mission Northwest's Molly Born and Lawrence Free State's Emily Venters in the 1600 meters at the Shawnee Mission North Relays Friday night.
Logue's time of 4:45.00 is the best time in the United States for high school girls this season. She overtakes Allie Schadler of Rio Rico High School (Ariz.) and the much-celebrated prep standout Brie Oakley of Grandview High School (Colo.)
Born was second on Friday in 4:48.87 and Venters a close third at 4:49.36. They now sit at No. 6 and No. 8 in the U.S. rankings.
Two weeks ago at the Kansas Relays, the three Kansas standouts thrilled the Rock Chalk Park crowd in the 3200 meter run. Logue came roaring down the last lap in 71 seconds to win in 10:09, just edging Born, who finished in 10:10. Venters was third in 10:16.
