This past fall was a good one for Bishop Carroll senior, Kaelyn Balch. She won her league meet, her regional meet, the 5A state meet and followed those accomplishments up by a strong showing at the NXN Heartland Regional where she crossed the line in 14th with a 5K time of 18:40.27. The winter was just as good to Balch as she committed to be a Missouri Tiger starting next fall.
It was a great 2011-2012 in both cross country and track across the state of Kansas. Many of our seniors will soon be on their way to start their college careers both athletically and academically so we wanted to salute them one more time in this special feature.
The much anticipated girls showdown at the Wichita Southeast Invitational did not disappoint. Avery Clifton and Kaelyn Balch raised the bar for Kansas to a whole new level, producing the #1 and 2 4k times in the nation. Aaron Pope and the Washburn Rural's boys barely held off Campus, and the Bishop Carroll girls proved they may be the best in the state.
Mackenzie Maki is back after dominating cross country last fall, and setting marks in the 1600 and 3200 that rank her 18th all-time in Kansas in both events.
