Kansas is well represented in the USTFCCCA Pre-Season Poll. The Kansas State Men, who come in ranked 22nd, are led by NCAA Champion and Olympic Silver Medalist, Erik Kynard Jr.. The Wildcats will also be getting some great performances from some Kansas Alum such as Kyle Wait, Gardner Edgerton grad, who placed 11th at the NCAA West Prelims last spring. Another Kansas alum, Ryan Hershberger, will be a big help in the throws, coming in 30th at the NCAA prelims last spring. Their 22nd ranking puts them second in the Big 12 Conference behind Texas who is currently ranked third.
On the Women's side, Kansas comes in ranked second behind only Clemson. The team is led by two women who are on the Bowerman Watchlist, Diamond Dixon and Andrea Geubelle. The Jayhawks also rely on some home grown talent. Louisburg Grad, Colleen O'Brien, currently has the third best mark in school history for Kansas in the high jump. While her best event might be the Javelin, which is not contested indoors, Heather Bergmann from from Concordia High School will do her best to help the Jayhawks in the winter.
Both teams will be in action this weekend at the Jayhawk Challenge in Lawrence. The meet begins tonight (Friday) at 4:00 PM.
