Salute to Seniors: David Thor - Bishop Carroll

Salute To Seniors: David Thor - Bishop Carroll

What was your most memorable race?

My most memorable race was my last 1600 at the state meet. I finally pushed through that pain barrier the last two laps and I had the best finish in that race out of any of my races I've ever run. It was a great PR for me and I broke the state meet record as well. I was very nervous before that race, but when I finished I was relieved. Though it would not have been accomplished if my teammates, Gage Garcia and Nick Martin had not pulled me through the first two laps. They gave their all for me and I hope I gave enough for them in that race.

Who was your biggest competition?

My biggest competition was myself. I've always struggled with the pain barrier, especially during longer workouts. It's always been difficult getting past it. I can think of one workout where I truly eclipsed that barrier which was a mile repeat workout and then the race I truly eclipsed that barrier was my last 1600 at the state meet this year.

Out of all of your high school accomplishments which stands out the most?

I think the one accomplishment that stands out the most was winning three team state championships. My XC teammates were basically family to me. I've known most of them since middle school, so running with them for basically for six years, they were my best friends and my brothers.

If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

I would probably not change anything. I know how it turned out now and that was the way it was supposed to be. That's the way God planned it and I'm very cool with it all.

What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

The most difficult obstacles were getting past the pain barrier as I said before and also staying strong in my Catholic faith, but I am still staying strong as I can.

What will you miss the most?

I will miss my running buds the most. Like I said, they are my best friends, and I will probably keep in touch with them my entire life.

Do you have any advice for younger athletes?

My advice for younger athletes would be to stick with it in whatever sport they are in and put your faith in God because He knows what you are supposed to do and where you are supposed to go in life.

What are your college plans?

I am going to Eastern Washington University, but I am still deciding what to do for my career. I hope to do something with coaching eventually.

Who would you like to say thank you to?

I would like to say thanks to God for my gifts that He gave me and for always being able to let put my hope in Him, my dad and Cory Swords who both coached me to my successes. Thanks to my family and friends for their constant support. And thank you to my running buds. They'll always be my best friends and they were always there when I needed them most. Thank you to anybody else that has been kind to me, and I hope that I can be someone that people will look up to.
