Each year in every sport, Gatorade names a player of the year in each state and one overall candidate nationwide.
The awards are based on athletic achievement along with academic achievement and character.
The Kansas Player of the Year for girls track and field named Topeka Seaman sophomore Ryin MIller.
Miller won the 5A girls 800m, 1,600m, and was runner-up in the 3,200m events. With national ranked performances of 2:10.25, 4:46.90, and 10:13.97 not only makes her one of the best sophomores, but best overall runners.
The Seaman sophomore maintains a 4.15 grade point average. As a member of her school's Key Club, she also exhibits exemplary character by donating her time for local youth sports leagues, tournaments, and camps. Miller also volunteered as an organizer in local elementary school educational programs.
