Ranking the Records Countdown - #3

Girls #3
MACAHLA WESLEY, Topeka West, 100m 11.49 (2010)

IAAF Score: 1,095 points

We can only imagine what would've happened if Macahla Wesley had stayed in Kansas beyond her sophomore year.

As it was, she produced arguably the greatest one-day sprint double in Kansas history...as a freshman.

Wesley screamed a state-record 11.49 at the 5A regional at Topeka Seaman High School.  She then doubled back and tore off a 24.07 200m, which was 5th on the all-time state list at the time.

In the span of just a few hours, Wesley ran the #1 100m and #5 200m in State history.

At the state meet the next week, Wesley ripped 24.32 in her 200m prelim, breaking a 26-year-old 5A state meet record.  Unfortunately, Wesley injured her hamstring in that prelim and had to scratch from the 200m final.  The injury also hampered her in the 100m, finish third running into a 4.1mps wind.

Wesley struggled with hamstring issues her sophomore year, but still managed to run a 56.51 400 at the KU Relays before having to shut her season down.

Wesley's family moved to Texas after her sophomore year. At LBJ high school in Austin, Wesley continued to struggle with hamstring issues but still improved her 400 PR to 55.66.

After high school, Wesley spent a year at the University of Texas before transferring to Texas State University.  She posted collegiate bests of 7.60 for 60m indoors and 23.78 outdoors.

Despite only one full season of Kansas high school competition, Wesley left an indelible mark and produced possibly the finest one-day sprint double in Kansas history.
