2009 Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference Women's Preview

This year looks to be wide-open for the KCAC women’s individual crown. Sarah Williams (Kansas Wesleyan) and Erica Joiner (Southwestern) were way ahead of the field last year, but graduated.   The top 6 returners all finished within 25 seconds of each other last year, and Friends picked up a transfer (Jordan Arnold) that will be right in the mix with them.   Kara Walker of Kansas Wesleyan leads the returners, followed by Southwestern’s Alyssa Carter and Amy Pierson.   It should be an exciting race to watch in November.

5 – Bethel returns a solid 3 that are all among the top 12 returners in the conference. They could contend for top 3 this year if they were able to shore up a good 4-5.

4 – Tabor has a group of 5 seniors coming back from their team that placed 3^rd place year.   They are led by Christina Addison who is the 5^th overall returner.  They will need to close the gap down to their 4-5 if they want to retain a top 3 finish.

3 – Kansas Wesleyan lost a lot to graduation, including individual champ Sarah Williams. They return two of the top 5 returners though (Kara Walker and Shanda Anderson), and will be very dangerous if they were able to reload with a good recruiting class.

2 – Friends brings back 6 from their team that placed 5^th last year.   Jordan Arnold transferred in with new coach Brad Peterson from Indiana Tech, and looks to be the individual favorite based on her finish at Nationals last year. She gives them a big boost towards a high team finish.  

1 – Southwestern is well positioned to grab their 5^th straight KCAC title, and 19^th overall. They return a very solid stable of 7 (not their top 7 though) from their team that easily won the KCAC last year with 23 points. Alyssa Carter and Amy Pierson lead the way for them as the 2^nd and 3^rd overall returners, and   their next 4 are all among the top 15 returning individuals.
