KC Meet of the Week: Blue Valley Relays

With just a couple meets across the metro this weekend, Blue Valley District Activity Complex will be the place to be for track & field. The Harry McDonald Blue Valley Relays are set to run on Friday & Saturday.

While elite performances are certainly possible, this week may be the calm before the storm with the return of the Kansas Relays looming next week.

Blue Valley boasts a number of fun relays, themselves, though. With sprint and distance medleys, shuttle hurdles, and 4x200, teams will certainly have some fun handing off the baton this weekend.

Possible highlights to watch for include the season debut of Shawnee Mission North distance runner Micah Blomker. Entries are not final yet, but look for him in the 3200. His rival from Shawnee Mission East, Wyatt Haughton, has yet to run a 1600 or 3200 this season. With the Lancers from East also at this meet, we may see a clash in the distance events.

We should see some excitement in the sand pits, as well. As mentioned before, entries are not final, but so far, five boys triple jumpers come in with marks beyond 40 feet. Similarly, six boys enter with long jumps over 20 feet. Each of these two are led by Shawnee Mission North's Kanyon Yazzie.

The girls jumps feature Shawnee Mission North's Rosjai Curtis, a junior that has burst onto the scene early in the year.

Gardner-Edgerton features a number of elite pole vaulters, led by Pierson Carlisle for the boys and Kaira Mannio for the girls.

A majority of schools from the Shawnee Mission and Blue Valley districts have been invited, in addition to several other schools throughout the metro, so expect even more highlights over the weekend!
