With almost twice as much time in the off-season between the end of XC and the start of track as there is between the end of track and the start of XC, who put together a track season that might be a harbinger of a breakout XC season? With meets opening this week, here's three boys and the three girls who are Ones to Watch based on our analysis.
BOYS
Angel Vazquez (Dodge City). After running 22:00.80 last fall, Vazquez ran 5:00.21 and 10:48.75 in track.
Colton Robinson ( Burrton HS). 23:17 at the Heart of the Plains/Wheat State League Challenge last fall, Robinson produced a 5:52.27 1600 on the track.
Leo Shelden (Lakin HS). Shelden ran 20:42.46 at Hugoton last fall, then improved to run a 5:09.91 1600 in track
GIRLS
Maleah Davis (Hutchinson-Trinity Catholic). After a 25:57.31 PR at the Great Bend 2A Regional last fall, Davis dropped a 5:53.55 PR on the track last spring.
Madilyn Mosteller (Seneca-Nemaha Central). Mosteller managed 22:42.15 at the Sabetha Regional last year but impressed with a 5:40.33 1600 to qualify for State.
Krysten Hamby (Buhler HS). Hamby ran 22:42.60 at State last fall and produced a 5:42.11 PR in track.
