CLASS OF 2020 HIGH SCHOOL XC RETROSPECTIVE

2016 FRESHMAN GIRLS

Seems like forever ago, doesn't it?

2016 should probably go down as the greatest girls cross country season in Kansas history because little ol' Kansas had 25% of the U.S. top-12 in 2016. The trio of Cailie Logue (U.S. #7), Molly Born (U.S. #9) and Emily Venters (U.S. #12) would all end the season nationally ranked in the top-12.  Sadly, the three would never face each other simultaneously on Kansas soil, but on October 1, 2016, Logue and Born squared off in tiny Baldwin City for an epic battle. They dropped two national bombs, with Logue winning in 16:45 (U.S. #2 at the time) and Born second in 17:11 (U.S. #5 at the time).  You can learn more about this incredible trio here.

Overall, the freshman girls were led by Aimee Davis of Clearwater with a sterling 18:15.10 at NXR, followed by Autumn Princ, Zoey Schillinger, Hannah Burks and Renee Trout.

5000 Meter Run

1A FRESHMAN GIRLS TOP 10

Autumn Princ was the highest-placing 2020er at State because she ran away with the 1A state title with a 60-second margin of victory. Princ would repeat the next year and be the only 2020er to win a 1A XC state title. Goessel was the team champ with Greeley County team runner-up.

2A FRESHMAN GIRLS TOP 10

Sybil Giefer was the highest-placing 2020er at State, finishing 7th. Bennington was the state team champ with Greensburg-Kiowa the runner-up.

3A FRESHMAN GIRLS TOP 10

Hannah Burks was the highest-placing state 2020er, finishing 3rd.  Hugoton was the team State champ, with up-and-coming Hiawatha the runner-up.

4A FRESHMAN GIRLS TOP 10

Aimee Davis was the top State 2020er, which was the best that could be expected because the winner was the legendary 13-time state champ, NCAA XC All-American, and U.S. World Junior T&F Team member Cailie Logue. Maize South took the team title, with Andover Central the runner-up.

5A FRESHMAN GIRLS

The 5A girls class of 2020 sent came in like a lion.  Allison Strathman and Katie Muckerman would be members of another St. Thomas Aquinas state championship team, while Sarah Murrow, Katie Moore, and Hannah Robinson were members of St. James Academy's Rim Rock Gold Division championship and state runner-up team.  Katie Horyna (who didn't pull into these rankings and should be 3rd in 19:42) was the top frosh at State.  Aquinas won the team title with St. James the runner-up.

Sophie Call was the top 2020er at State, finishing 10th in race where the 1-2 were the other two national rankers, Molly Born and Emily Venters.  Lawrence Free State was the state champ with Shawnee Mission North second.
