Name: Luke Buchanan
School: St. James Academy
Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?
A: The coaches have been very good at sending out the workouts to us every week and I usually do the workouts by myself for these workouts.
Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?
A: Just playing video games and watching YouTube.
Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?
A: My most memorable moment was being able to help my 4 x 4 and 4 x 8 team get to state and I was happy that I was a part of it because it was my only time ever going to state in either track and cross country.
Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
A: Definitely the Aquinas track meet last year when a couple of my teammates brought a mini basketball hoop and were messing around on the infield
Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
A: Definitely Zack Wurtenberger. He is the best teammate to run with for workouts but I am not as fast as him, even after 8 years of running with him.
Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?
A: I would say going to state, even though I did not get to run. It was still a very fun experience to see what the team does and to hang out with friends.
Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
A: Nothing, I would not want to replace any of the memories that I made in the years.
Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
A: I hurt my hip during cross country my freshman year and then after a few races, I got a concussion and had to recover from that as well.
Q: What will you miss the most?
A: The memories that I would have made and the feeling you get before you run a race.
Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?
A: Never give up. All of us seniors have gone through a lot of pain and have gotten back up to get better. I would do it all again even with all of the injuries that I had.
Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?
A: The coaches were a huge factor of whether I would continue to run either cross country or track and have encouraged me to continue with running and to take care of my body.
Q: What are your college plans?
A: I am planning on going to JCCC and then to Pitt State.
Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
A: Multiple people. First of all, to my coaches for helping me through tough workouts and races. Also, I would like to thank my sister Celeste Buchanan for taking me to practices my freshman year. Lastly, I would like to thank my parents for helping me decide to run in the first place.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
A:
Q: Favorite Meal?
A: Whenever I make pancakes in the mornings.
Q: If you could be any animal what would you choose? and why?
A: A cat because they do nothing all day.
Q: Your favorite superhero?
A: I don't really do superheroes, but one that I liked when I was young was the Flash.
