We Salute Abby Brown

Name: Abby Brown

School: Central Heights High School

Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?

A: My training currently consists of biking and running on trails and backroads.  I am going to play basketball next year, so most of my conditioning will hopefully be geared toward that eventually, but all the gyms are closed right now.

Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?

A: Other than running and biking, I have been staying busy by painting, reading, and playing online games with my friends.

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?

A: My most memorable race was either running at the cross country state meet this year or placing in the 400m dash at state track last year.

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

A: The funniest thing that happened during my running career was watching my friend cut down to lane 1 from lane 6 in a 400m because it was his first time running it.

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

A: I would consider West Franklin being our biggest competitor just because they are the closest school to us that we compete against.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: My greatest accomplishment was earning a state medal in cross country and placing third with my team! This was my first year ever doing cross country, and it was amazing getting to end the season on such a great note!

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

A: If I could change anything, I would've started running a lot earlier than when I did. I began doing track my junior year and cross country my senior year.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

A: The most difficult obstacles I had to overcome was having to learn how to run again. I hadn't competed in a running event since middle school, so I had to condition and train hard to get my body to where it needed to be.

Q: What will you miss the most?

A: What I will miss the most is the time I had with my teammates. Getting the medals and trophies is awesome, but I will never forget my teammates and the time, sweat, and work we put in together.

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

A: Always give everything into anything you do. What's the point in trying something if you're not going to give it all you have?

Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?

A: I think our coach has had a huge impact on not only me and the team, but also on the whole school. He's tough, he has high expectations, and he is definitely hard on us, but he also knows how to turn people into runners. I'm thankful for the time that I got to be coached by him.

Q: What are your college plans?

A: I am signed to play basketball at Bethany College.

Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

A: I would like to say "thank you" to my parents, Coach Oestreicher, Coach Prosser, Coach North, Tommi, and all of my teammates.

Q: Favorite Meal?

A: Chicken alfredo

Q: If you could be any animal what would you choose? and why?

A: If I could be any animal, I would want to be a bird or an eagle so I could fly and see anywhere I wanted.

Q: Your favorite superhero?

A: My favorite superhero is Batman.
