We Salute Marrit Mead, Santa Fe Trail

Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?
A: With the current situation, I have been going to the lake in Overbrook and running laps there. Some days I run multiple laps other days I do intervals around it. At home, I have started simple leg and ab workouts.

Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?
A: To keep myself busy I have been painting.

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?
A: At state track my Junior year there was not any prelims due to rain delays. For finals I was in the slow heat in the 100m based on my regionals time. After winning my heat, I stared at the screen praying to see my name make top 8. I looked up and i saw "Marrit Mead 4th place!"

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
A: Without a doubt, my biggest competition was Matti Price from Riverton. Matti and I were in the same regionals my Junior year and racing her was the first time I had ever been really pushed. Matti is a fabulous athlete who will be attending Pitt State next year and will be on their track team.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?
A: Placing 4th place at State in the 100m dash my Junior year

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
A: If I could change one thing about my career, I would have done track my freshman year. Starting as a sophomore, I lost a year of experience that most had already had.

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
A: I am a dual sport athlete competing in both track and softball. It was difficult at times to juggle both. Some very busy weeks, sometimes two softball games and two track meets!

Q: What will you miss most?
A: I will miss State Track the most! Such an amazing environment to be apart of.

Q: What advice would you give younger athletes?
A: Push yourself during practice. Run against people who are faster than you because that will be what makes you better and faster.

Q: What kind of impact has your coach had on your and your team?
A: My coach has helped me tremendously. Dealing with my busy schedule, me complaining about being sore and tired, running with me while I am alone at practice... I would say he has done it all! Thanks Coach Ramsey!

Q: What are your college plans?
A: I will be attending Washburn University on a softball scholarship. I am undecided as to what I will major in right now.

Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
A: I would like to say thank you to my family. Thank you for supporting me and pushing me throughout HS.

Q: Is there anything else you would like to add?
A: No

Q: Favorite Meal?
A: Orange chicken, chow mein, and crab rangoon from Panda Express

Q: If you could be any animal what would you choose? And why?
A: If I could be any animal I would want to be an otter. The swim so smooth and can do tricks in the water.

Q: Favorite superhero?
A: The Hulk
