Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?
A: As of right now I work out twice a week and run at least 4 times a week.
Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?
A: Basically just watch Netflix, talk with friends, sleep, and eat.
Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?
A: My most memorable race/moment was probably my Sophomore year when I was ranked 8th (I think) at the regional meet in the 1600 m, and I ended up getting 4th. Which then allowed me to go to state for the first time. I have another one which was last year during the 1600 I was tripped and it was embarrassing, and that's the only reason it was memorable but now looking back it's a story to tell.
Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
A: A lot of funny things have happened through out my career, but the one that takes the cake was at a team bonding event. What happened was we were playing manhunt in the park and a kid went to go to the bathroom then everyone hid and I drove my car away so the kid thought we left him behind.
Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
A: My biggest competition over the past 4 years is the guys from Circle, mainly Ryan Derry and Eli Jacobson.
Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?
A: My greatest accomplishment (that's running related) is when I qualified for Kansas State Meet in both track and cross country while maintaining good grades.
Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
A: Something I would change if I was to do it over again is to get to know kids from other teams, I only ever hung out with my team till the past two years. Having friends from other schools you can run with is nice because you never know who might be your teammate in college, or will be able to help get you on a college team. Plus, it helps to train with different people. Having friends on other teams also makes meets more fun because there's always someone to talk to and you'll most likely end up meeting their entire team and becoming friends with all of them.
Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
A: The most difficult obstacle I had to over come was probably blisters that would almost heal then we'd race and they'd be open again.
Q: What will you miss the most?
A: I'll miss hanging out with my team by the high jump pits waiting for our events, as well as the team bonding events we had.
Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?
A: My advice for younger athletes is to get to know the other kids you compete against (no matter the age), and don't be afraid to train with them if your team isn't practicing. As I said in a earlier question you never know, you might end up being teammates with them one day, or they might put in a good word for you at a school.
Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?
A: My coach has impacted me by help guide me on what to do during races and also that working hard on and off the course won't go unnoticed.
Q: What are your college plans?
A: Next year I'll be attending Emporia State and running cross country and track while pursuing a degree in Business Administration.
Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
A: I'd like to thank all of my coaches, not just my high school and middle school ones, for pushing me and making me work hard which has lead me to be able to go to college for running and made me the person I am today. I'd also like to thank all of the officials and coaches that help host meets, without them I wouldn't have been able to compete in the sport I enjoy doing most.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
A: "Don't be afraid to get up in there and stick you nose in it" - Coach Steve Reichardt at every meet
"It's good for you it builds character" - Coach Joan Reichardt during every track workout
Just have fun and don't let yourself get burned out
Q: Favorite Meal?
A: My favorite meal is definitely spaghetti and garlic bread.
Q: If you could be any animal what would you choose? and why?
A: I'd be a dog because they get to do whatever they want and have no responsibilities.
Q: Your favorite superhero?
A: My favorite superhero, if you'd call him one, is probably Deadpool.
