Name: Christian Buehler
School: Blue Valley Southwest
Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?
A: The same for the most part, still getting in two workouts a week, a long run on Saturday and easy runs sprinkled through out the week as well.
Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?
A: Well with the virus I'm pretty contained to my house for the most part, so I picked up my Playstation controller for the first time in a year.
Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?
A: my most memorable race ever would have to be Blue Valley Relays my sophmore year, i remember my goal was to finally break 10:00 in the 3200 and i went 9:47 and then they told me right after i got disqualified from the race for stepping in side of the line.
Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?
A: My sophomore year at KU Relays, our team did a 4xmile and i was about to get the baton, i was till standing in like the 6th lane then last minute i moved up and ran into my teammate.
Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?
A: my biggest competition over the past four years, i feel like would be Aidan Higgerson from Saint Thomas Aquinas, it always seems like every race we go back and fourth in, one beats the other one week then it flips flops the next week. But i wouldn't be where i am today with out competition like that.
Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?
A: My greatest running accomplishments i feel like race wise was winning BV Relays my Junior year, cause that's a meet my dads been taking me to since i was like 7 or 8 years old, also being able to qualify for Festival of Miles my junior year was very exciting to because i wouldn't have been able to do it this year due to the cancelation of everything. it was just too bad none of the seniors are able to get to see how all there off season hard work came fruition this year.
Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?
A: I don't think I'd chance very much, I'd stop stressing so much about what times I'd run my freshman year when i was a freshman. I make sure to kick it in all the way through the finish line. But all in all that's about it, every thing else made me the runner i am today which I'm grateful for.
Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?
A: My most difficult obstacle i had to over come was the mental side of things. I struggled very badly with the mental approach in XC so all winter off season I'd train mentally harder then i ever have and it helped a lot in track. Being able to push through the mental doubts during workouts will help you push through them in races.
Q: What will you miss the most?
A: The racing and the competition, some of these guys i ran with I'll never see again maybe. I'm gonna miss cracking one last joke on the start line or something like that. I'm gonna miss laying it all out there on the track for one last season of high school.
Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?
A: Love what your doing, you never know when it's gonna end so don't take it for granted. Discipline is the number one thing that will make you a good runner, take the hard days hard, take the easy days easy. Trust your training and the people around you.
Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?
A: My coaches have had huge impact, one of them being my dad. But my coaches are the ones who got me here and taught me that the hard work and pain is all worth it.
Q: What are your college plans?
A: Next year I'm running track and cross county at Kansas State University.
Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?
A: I'd like to thank God first, he's the one who gave me my ability to run. But there's a tone of people I'd thank, i wouldn't even know where to start, my teammates over the years have pushed me like none other as well as my coaches, and my family was always there for me after a race. I'd have to just thank all of them for being there for me no matter what.
Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?
A: It's been one crazy high school career felt like yesterday it was my first run ever and got lost on the trail, too bad it had to come to an end like this. Hundreds of kids in the best shape of there careers now are left with no satisfaction of getting to prove so in a race. But at the end of the day it will make the entire class of 2020 stronger.
Q: Favorite Meal?
A: Pizza
Q: If you could be any animal what would you choose? and why?
A: probably a cheetah just to see what it's like to run that fast.
Q: Your favorite superhero?
A: iron man
School: Blue Valley Southwest
