TEAMS Maranatha Academy
lost three of four top runners from the state meet, including champion Lauren
Harrell, but return three top-28 placers, so they could still be in the
mix. The pre-season favorites, however,
are Ellinwood and Berean Academy.
Ellinwood finished second to Maranatha last year, and they return four
medalists and one other runner. Berean
Academy only finished fifth last year, but would have been higher had not two
runners been disqualified. One of those
runners, as well as the other five runners, return for Berean, so they should
give Ellinwood and Maranatha a good challenge.
Behind those three teams, a couple others that could contend for a
podium finish are Sacred Heart (fourth last year), though they lost two
scorers, and Olpe (sixth last year), who returns four of their top five from
last year.
INDIVIDUALS The pre-season
favorite is likely Bennington’s Halle Johnson, who had impressive XC and track
seasons last year ...
