2A Boys
Although it was a little bit closer than anticipated (at least by me), Maranatha Academy was able to defend their 2014 title, on the strength of a 20-second spread in their top five runners, strung out between 17th and 30th place. Wichita County took advantage as much as possible of this lack of front running by Maranatha, taking a 12th place finish and a 20th and 21st finish; in fact, WC was winning through three runners. Though WC did have a decent #4 and #5 (33rd and 42nd), it was not enough to overcome Maranatha, who took the 60-72 win. Stanton County held off St. John-Hudson and Olpe to take the final podium spot with 118 points; their sixth-place medalist was supported enough with four in the top sixty, which neither St. John-Hudson nor Olpe was able to do.
For the individual title, Kyler True of Olpe took a convincing win, running a 16:28 to beat out Luke Skinner of South Gray, who ran a 16:50. True's win made him a now two-time 2A XC champ. Skinner, a junior, also became a three-time medalist and snuck ahead of Frank Cuevas of Kiowa County (another junior), who earned his second-straight 3rd place finish and the third top-eight finish of his XC career. Skinner ran a 16:50 to Cuevas' 16:58, and they were the only 2A runners under 17:00.
