Team Kansas Wrap on the Track at the GSWTC

Even though the runners didn’t find the success the field events did, Team Kansas did come home with a medal on the track.

The 100m Shuttle Hurdle Relay team found success over the barriers finishing 3rd behind a very strong field from Texas and Missouri, bringing home a 3rd place medal in what proved to be the only medal won on the track for team Kansas. The relay team made up of 4 of the top returning hurdlers for 2015, anchored by number 1 in Kansas Sarah Hines, also included Jordyn Harmon a Jr. at Emporia, Gabby Dabney a Jr. at Free State and classmate Jr. Kiara Clark finished the 400 shuttle hurdles in a time of 59.81. Texas won the event in a meet record time of 57.72. Word has it these young ladies are already planning a return trip to compete in this again next year.

All for competed in the open 100m Hurdles with Jordyn Harmon having the top time in 15.07 followed by Gabby Dabney in 15.42, Kiara Clark 15.52, Sarah Hines in 15.59.

Jordyn Harmon sprinted her way to a 13.02, 100m. While Kiara Clark ran the 300 hurdles and finished in a time of 45.63. Gabby Dabney completed the “fearsome foursome” day on the track by competing in the Heptathlon and finishing with a total point score of 3738 points.

On the track for the distance people, who in high altitude this is not a great place to run, Kansas was stretched thin. Jenny O’Bryan a sophomore at St. Paul High school ran the double of the 3200 and mile finishing with times of 12:10.04 and 5:42.78. Jenny was a Kansas state champion in the 3200 and showed the effects of the altitude. Her younger sister Sarah O’Bryan ran a 6:30.24, well off her pr.

Ethan Donley, a Jr. from Free State competed in the boys 800m finishing in a respectable time of 2:01.38. While Alyssa Frausto, Kansas youngest competitor, a Freshman from Maize South ran a 2:27.16.

Korie Frausto a sophomore at Maize South was the lone mens sprinter for Team Kansas as he ran a 22.60 in the 200m and a 49.63 in the 400m.

The Barrier jumpers saw Nick Guist a recent grad. Of Bishop Carroll run both the 110h and the 300h running them in 14.97 and  39.95 respectively. Rasheed McAlphin  of Topeka finished out the hurdlers running the 300h in 39.28.

Team Kansas ended the meet with a 9th place finish in the men’s 4x400 Relay, with Korie Frausto, Nick Guist, Rasheed McAlphin, and Eziekel Welch running a 3:25.50.
