Female Runner of the Week : Week 4

Runner of the Week - Week 4 - Grace Morgan

Last year Grace Morgan finished 67th at Rim Rock, crossing the line in 16:44.  This year was a bit different with Morgan 13th in a time of 15:20.40.   For her incredible improvement on last season, we have selected her for the runner of the week for Week 4. The Lawrnece senior opened her season at the Manhattan Invitational where she was second to seventh ranked Alaina Schroeder.  According her coach, Brian Anderson, the race plan for Saturday was to work on running as fast as Shawnee Heights, a flatter course that she ran the week before.  Her time at that meet was 15:18.25, only two seconds faster than her time from Rim Rock.  Coach Anderson attributes her improvement year over year by her work ethic as she "has trained very hard with the goal of doing much better than last year in all of her races.  Her mental toughness is a big part of her success."  He also cites that one of her strengths as a runner is her "strong work ethic and determination to improve."  Morgan, who is currently ranked 9th in 6A will have her work cut out of her for the rest of the season.   Her and the rest of her Lawrence teammates will head to the Seaman Invitational where she will look to improve on her second place finish from last year.  From there it will be the Shawnee Mission West Invite where she will be facing the likes of Alli Cash and the Baker twins. Coach Anderson says "Grace hopes to break into the mid to upper 14 minute range this week and plans to keep pushing through the state meet."  Best of luck to Grace and congrats being named Runner of the Week!
