How They Fared - Week 1 - Girls

We take a look at the top three schools of each division as voted on by the coaches.   

 

Girls 6A

#1) Olathe East - The top ranked girls 6A team excelled at their home tri-meet to start the season.  They went 1-3 in the senior race, first in the junior race, second in the sophomore race, and 1-2 in the freshman race. Overall, Brenna McDonald tied for the fastest time for the day. 

#2) Shawnee Mission West - Alli Cash started off the season with an impressive performance to lead SMW to a 3rd place finish at the Greg Wilson Classic behind St. Thomas Aquinas and Kearney, the Missouri Class 3 champions from 2011.

#3) Manhattan - While Alaina Schroeder dominated the field winning by 20 seconds, Manhattan fell to Lawrence by a mere 2 points. Freshman, Christina Wankum, was the second place finisher for Manhattan coming in fifth place. 

 

Girls 5A

#1) Bishop Carroll - Bishop Carroll got it done scoring only 22 points at their home meet which featured six teams.  They placed their top 6 within the top nine, including champ Kaelyn Balch.

#2) St. Thomas Aquinas - No Result

#3) Lansing - No Result

 

Girls 4A

#1) Baldwin - Baldwin defeated St. James 34-55 finishing 3-4-8-9-13-14.  They were led by Kaitlyn Barnes who came across the line in 17:01.

#2) Wamego - The Red Raiders finished sixth out of eight teams at the Manhattan Invitational. Their top harrier was Allison Seufert, sophomore, who finished 10th in 17:16.55.

#3) Paola - The panthers finished second behind host Hayden. Katie Jo Kirk led Paola with her sixth place finish with teammate, Amanda Hedges, finishing less than half of a second behind her.

 

Girls 3A

#1) Norton - The Blue Jays dominated their home meet scoring 27 points while second place, Oberlin, finished with 64. Sierra Griffith led the cause running 17:55 to finish third.

#2) Salina Sacred Heart - The Knights also scored 27 points in their first meet.  They went to the Abeline Invitational where they had a pack of four finish 3-4-5-6, led by Ansely Bender who ran 16:55.8.

#3) Douglass - No Result

 

Girls 2A

#1) Marantha Academy - The Eagles were third behind two Class 4 schools, Hayden and Paola, at the Hayden Invitational.  They did have the top two finishers in Lauren Harrell, first, and Hope Manning, second, both of which running 16:35.

#2) Ellinwood - Ellinwood (81) finished third behind Garden City (20), and Great Bend (60) at the Great Bend Invitational.  Senior Jenna Snell was the top finisher for the team with her fourth place finish in a time of 17:00.

#2) Stanton Co. - Stanton County claimed the team title at the Meade Invitational with 27 points. A pair of sophomores, Jenna Black and Haley Ford, finished first and second to help the Trojans to victory.

 

Girls 1A

#1) Bishop Seabury Academy - The top ranked 1A school fared well, finishing fourth at the Hayden Invitational.  Katie Albrecht finished fifth less than ten seconds behind the victor.

#3) Greeley County - No Result
