Hannah Long US#1-4:45-1600m! US#6-2:11! 2014 Festus Early Bird I

Hannah Long added to her status as one of the best high school runners in the country and one of the best all-time in Missouri Saturday, at the 2014 Festus Early Bird Track and Field Invitational. Long washed away any lingering taste of disappointment from her 22nd place finish (with a cold) at the 2013 Foot Locker Cross Country National Championships. The Eureka junior opened her outdoor track season by bolting off the starting line in the 1600, leaving fellow All-Americans Taylor Werner and Jamie Kempfer to chase. Long scorched the track for a 4:45.84. The time appears to put Long second all-time on the Missouri performance list, behind only Emily Sisson's 4:44 full mile at the 2010 Adidas Grand Prix Dream Mile. The mark also put Long atop the US high school girls performance list for the 2014 outdoor season. Long followed the great race with a 2:11 800 meters, which gives her the sixth best mark nationally, early in the outdoor season. Long will keep trying to fly on the track as she and Coach Kaly Fischer will head to the best regular season high school meet in the country, the Arcadia Invitational in two weeks near Los Angeles, shooting for an improvement over her 10:27 personal record in the 3200 meters. In a month, Long will head to Louisville to race at the Eastern Relays. Long and Coach Fischer said they weren't really surprised with her performances Saturday, and that they expected to pick up where they left off at the end of the last year's track season after a good off-season of training.
