JOCO Schools Kick Off Voluntary Inter-School Runs

Approximately 70 athletes from nine different Johnson County high schools met at 6:30am Saturday morning at Garry Gribbles Running Sports in Overland Park for what is believed to be the first-ever inter-school summer training run.  The brain-child of Blue Valley Southwest assistant coach Gregg Buehler, the Saturday runs allow kids from different schools to train together.  Athletes can choose the distances they run and the schools will rotate hosting each Satuday morning.  Other area schools are invited to attend, but attendance is voluntary and up to each coach/school.  Schools with athletes present this morning included Blue Valley Southwest, Blue Valley North, St. Thomas Aquinas, Shawnee Mission South, Shawnee Mission Northwest, St. James Academy, Olathe Northwest, Mill Valley and Shawnee Mission East.  Kudos to Coach Buehler and Blue Valley Southwest for a great idea!

If coaches are interested in having their teams participate, they can contact Coach Buehler at GBuehler@bluevalleyk12.org.
