The Scoop: Georgia History, Businesslike In The Northwest And Ohio's Superb D1 Race

5. Milton's Dominance Was Significant

There's no doubt the Milton High boys program in Georgia has had a season for the ages.

Winning the team's first state Class 7A title on Saturday in Carrollton, the Eagles were just as dominant as they were throughout the season, earning the top two places in the race between the team's one-two punch of Sam Bowers (15:58.99) and Nicholas Yanek (16:04.35).

The team, which has laid down powerful performances in every meet this season -- and continues to be undefeated -- scored 40 points, finished with a 72-second spread between its scorers and averaged 16:36 overall.

"We ran nine races this year, all the same," Bowers said in his post-race interview of he and Yanek. "It's nice knowing that [we're together] all through the season."

That type of dominance from a boys program in Georgia is rare, especially considering it's not over.

The Eagles, who won big meets in Virginia (Knights Crossing), Georgia (Wingfoot XC Classic), and South Carolina (Furman) previously, will move on to NXR Southeast on November 25 in Cary, North Carolina, with hopes of earning their first trip to Nike Cross Nationals.

That could ultimately cement their status as one of the best all-time teams in Georgia.

Can they achieve that goal?
