Sharon Springs Junior Hallie Kuhlman Staying Upbeat Despite Knee Injury Conor Nicholl May 02, 2011

Kuhlman, an all-state volleyball player, the leading scorer on the basketball team and a state powerlifting champion, is most well-known for her track success. As a freshman, Kuhlman won the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes and the 800-meter run and led the Wildcats to a second-place team finish. Kuhlman became the first athlete in Kansas history to win those events in one state track meet. She replicated that feat last spring to become one of only 4 girls ever to win 4 golds in two Kansas state meets.

Marcus Moeder Chooses Track Over Football; Signs With Wichita State Conor Nicholl Apr 30, 2011

PLAINVILLE -- Last year, La Crosse's Marcus Moeder drew the attention of the Wichita State University track and field coaches when he won the Elite Division of the long jump at the K.T. Woodman, a large regular-season meet hosted by WSU.

Soon after that, Moeder, a six-time state track medalist, suffered a foot injury and didn't place at the state meet. Injuries again limited Moeder to half a season in football and he missed the first part of basketball. Wichita State, though, stayed interested and Moeder took his official visit in December. Moeder, who rushed for more than 3,400 career yards and is a Shrine Bowl selection, recently signed with WSU to run track, choosing the sport over other options for football.

Riedel, Kisner, and Jordan on the Comeback Trail From Knee Surgery Conor Nicholl Apr 11, 2011

WaKeeney-Trego Community High School junior Lexi Riedel went up for a jump shot during the Purple and Golden basketball tournament last December in WaKeeney. Riedel felt something pop when she landed. Doctors did a test and determined she tore the anterior cruciate ligament in her knee. She also had damage to the meniscus and medial collateral ligament.

Riedel, one of the state's top sprinters, had surgery, spent eight weeks on crutches and hasn't been able to compete in track this spring. On Tuesday, Riedel watched her teammates compete at the season-opening Ellis Invitational.

"The last few months have been the longest ever," she said. "I am so ready to come back."
