Kansas Outdoor Breakthrough Performances: Week of May 18

Kansas high school track and field athletes posted several personal records during regional competition the week of May 18.

Kimber Thomeczek (Syracuse) ran 5:21.63 in the 1600 meters at the KSHSAA 2A Regional in Medicine Lodge on May 21, improving from her previous best of 5:42.59. The mark ranks #72 in Kansas and set a Syracuse High School record. Thomeczek placed second and also lowered her 800-meter time from 2:26.83 to 2:26.41.

Ryker Hawbaker (Southeast of Saline) clocked 15.85 in the 110-meter hurdles at the KSHSAA 3A Regional in Beloit on May 21, dropping from his previous mark of 16.80. The freshman ranks #108 in the state and #9 among freshmen. Hawbaker finished sixth and also improved in the 300 hurdles from 44.09 to 43.65.
