Kansas high school track and field athletes posted several personal records during regional competition the week of May 18.
Kimber Thomeczek (Syracuse) ran 5:21.63 in the 1600 meters at the KSHSAA 2A Regional in Medicine Lodge on May 21, improving from her previous best of 5:42.59. The mark ranks #72 in Kansas and set a Syracuse High School record. Thomeczek placed second and also lowered her 800-meter time from 2:26.83 to 2:26.41.
Ryker Hawbaker (Southeast of Saline) clocked 15.85 in the 110-meter hurdles at the KSHSAA 3A Regional in Beloit on May 21, dropping from his previous mark of 16.80. The freshman ranks #108 in the state and #9 among freshmen. Hawbaker finished sixth and also improved in the 300 hurdles from 44.09 to 43.65.
Aizaiah Rookwood (Leavenworth) cleared 6-8 in the high jump at the KSHSAA 5A Regional in De Soto on May 22, bettering his previous best of 6-4 from May. The sophomore won the event and ranks #4 in Kansas and #1 among sophomores while establishing a Leavenworth High School record.
Sydney Woolfolk (Olathe Northwest) leaped 18-0.75 in the long jump at the KSHSAA 6A Regional at Olathe North on May 22, improving from 16-8.75. The senior placed fifth and ranks #26 in the state. Woolfolk also set a personal record in the triple jump, going from 36-6.25 to 37-1.
Jayden Olsen (Turner) ran 58.78 in the 400 meters at the KSHSAA 5A & 6A Regional at Overland Park-Blue Valley High on May 22, lowering her time from 1:01.47. The junior finished fifth and ranks #32 in Kansas and #14 among juniors.
Abram Knight (Shawnee-Maranatha Academy) ran 2:01.11 in the 800 meters at the KSHSAA 3A Regional in Osage City on May 21, improving from his April mark of 2:07.43. The junior placed fourth and ranks #102 in the state and #26 among juniors.
Jericho Mawhirter (St. John-Hudson) ran 11.00 in the 100 meters at the KSHSAA 1A Regional at Kiowa County on May 22, improving from 11.37. The junior finished third and ranks #118 in Kansas while setting a St. John-Hudson High School record. Mawhirter also lowered his 400-meter time from 51.25 to 51.01.
