This Week's Nominees:
Maria Portela, Blue Valley High School (Kansas): Won three events at the BV West ELITE Meet, posting a state-leading 24.62 in the 200 meters while also clocking 11.49 in the 100 and 57.35 in the 400. Her sprint double swept past state-ranked Sienna Wesley in both races. The junior ranks as the top 100-meter runner and second-fastest 200-meter athlete in her class statewide.
Ava Claasen, Kapaun Mt. Carmel High School (Kansas): Clocked 10:17.49 to win the 3200 meters at the Campus High School Invitational. The time ranks her as the top sophomore distance runner in Kansas.
Sienna Wesley, Olathe North High School (Kansas): Jumped 19-6.75 to win the long jump at the BV West ELITE Meet while also placing second in both sprint events with marks of 12.02 in the 100 and 25.43 in the 200. Despite falling to Blue Valley's Maria Portela on the track, she leads all Kansas juniors in the long jump.
