Strong Field Events and Wind Highlight Winfield Invitational

Note: I took several videos at the meet, but the wind was so brutal they just didn't turn out very good because of me getting whipped around.  I will post them if I can manage to get them stabilized some.

Meshach Kennedy - Derby

Kennedy, the 2009 6A 110h champ kicked off his season with a big win in the 110h in 14.82.  He followed it up with a 2nd place finish in the 300h in 42.85, and a leg on the winning 4x100 team (44.15).

Miguel Johns - Newton

Johns, the 2009 5A 300h runner-up placed 2nd to Kennedy in the 110h in 15.41, and followed it up with a win in the 300h in 41.59.

Neil Metler - Derby

Metler kicked off 2010 with big wins in the 1600 and 3200. In the 1600, he towed the field through 400m in 70.x, and then walked away to a 20 second victory in 4:40.  Then he went on to negative split the 3200, and win by 30 seconds in 9:58.

Molly Milbourn - El Dorado

Milbourn, one of Kansas' best runners in everything from the 800m to Cross Country entered the meet with a personal best of 11:19.67 in the 3200m from last years second place showing at the State meet.  She took off hard from the gun, and went on to run 11:29.96 completely solo from start to finish.  Very impressive considering the conditions. I spoke with her after the race, and she told me she just wanted to try to break 12:00.  Mission accomplished, and then some!  Expect to see her run a big PR soon, and join the sub-11 club.

Emily Cook - Kapaun Mt. Carmel

Cook, 2nd in 5A in the shot, 3rd in the Disc, and 13th in the Javelin, started off the season with solid marks in the Jav and Disc, and a huge one in the Shot.  She won the Shot Put with a throw of 42-7. Won the Discus with a 124-10.5, and placed 2nd in the Javelin with a 110-5.

Tyler Rambo - Newton

Rambo, ( was 3rd in the Discus, and 4th in the Shot Put in 5A last year) not only had the coolest name of any guy at the meet, but put up the biggest marks of any guy also. He won the Shot Put and Discus with big throws of 51-7.25 (a near PR), and 165-3 (a big PR).  Derby's Bryce Fisher was 2nd in the Shot with a 50-7.5.

Jaime House - El Dorado

The 4A Girls Pole Vault champ managed to clear 11-6 despite the tough winds and looks poised to defend her title in 2010.  Cara Detmer of Bishop Carroll claimed 2nd with an 11-0.
