Jenna Hutchins Headlines Fast High School 3200 at MCDC

It's been a long summer, but the Music City Distance Carnival is finally here.

While there aren't as many high school races this time around -- you can blame COVID-19 for that -- the two fields racing in high school-specific 3,200m races on Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee, are going to be quick.

The 3,200 meter runs are the only high school race at this socially distanced meet -- however, a handful of high school performers will be competing in men's and women's competitions elsewhere.

Science Hill junior Jenna Hutchins is back at this year's meet. In 2019, she broke the state record at the end of her freshman year in the mile at this event.

This time she'll be taking aim at a new career-best in the 3,200.

Flower Mound junior Natalie Cook should be her top challenger. The Texas native has a 10:24.96 personal best, which she ran in the 2019 outdoor season. Carmen Alder, a rising senior from Pinecrest (NC), will be there as well. She's got a 10:30.73 personal best. Other talented females to watch include Presley Miles (Saint James, AL), Lucca Fulkerson (Niwot, CO), Kaylie Armitage (LaSalle Academy, RI), Ava Gordon (Loudoun Valley, VA) and Ciara O'Shea (Madison Central, KY)

Allison Newman, Kaitlyn Vanderkolk and Marilyn McCarthy are the other in-state representatives. That race will run at 10:30 PM CT here in Nashville.

Here are the top 12 entries.

On the guys side, New Jersey native Jackson Braddock, of Southern Regional High School, is the leading competitor. He's run a 9:06.68 this outdoor season. Wisconsin rising senior Jack Scherer, of Oshkosh North (WI), is the second seed with a 9:12.60 from back in June earlier this summer.

Locally, Brentwood High School's Kevin Vanderkolk is the top in-state competitor. He's looking to break a 9:17 career-best against a solid field on Saturday night at 10:15 PM.
