Lori Green qualified for the 1976 Olympic Trials.
She was 16 years old.
Early success was not a surprise. Green showed both interest and ability in track and caught the eye of Dr. John Davis, Jr., the coach of the Cosmos Track club, an AAU club team for which she would compete in summer track through much of grade school and high school.
Green opted not to go to the 1976 Olympic Trials, focusing instead on her high school and future college career.
And what a career it would be.
At one time, Green held the state records at both 100 and 200. Her 11.5yh remains tied for 10th on the Kansas all-time list.
She won six state championships while at Topeka West.
After high school, Green went to the University of Kansas. At KU, Green won four Big 8 Conference titles and was voted Most Valuable Female Athlete at the 1979 Kansas Relays.
She ended her college career with PRs of 11.56 and 23.0, times that are still #8 and #9 on KU's all-time list even today.
After graduating with her degree in Sociology, Green worked at the Kansas Neurological Institute in Topeka for over 13 years. Then, along with her husband Bernard, they owned and operated Sir Ezra Steak and Seafood.
Sadly, Green passed away February 24, 2015. She was only 54 years old.
