Ranking the Records Countdown - #5

Boys #5
ROGER TIMKEN, Cimarron, 200m 20.7 (1966)
IAAF Score: 1,112 points

Roger Timken was, as the saying goes, "all that and a bag of chips."

At the regional meet in 1966, Timken produced what may be one of the greatest one-day performances in Kansas history.

Timken ran 14.0 in the 120 yard high hurdles, 18.4 time in the 180 yard low hurdles, and crown jewel that comes in at #5 on our countdown, 20.9 220 yards, converting to 20.7 for 200m. On cinder.

At the time, Track and Field News ranked his 120 yard hurdle time as tied for second in the U.S., his 180 yard low hurdles as fastest time in the U.S., and his 220 as a share of fourth fastest in the U.S.

The #1, #2 and =#4 performances in America in three different events, all on the same day.

Needless to say, he would win the same three events the next week at the State meet and lead Cimarron to the state team title, edging Frontenac by two points.

Timken went on to compete all four years at Kansas State before teaching, coaching, and serving as an administrator his entire career at Dighton after graduating from K-State.
