We Salute Dylan Stoltzfus, Wichita East

Name:Dylan Stoltzfus

School: Wichita East

Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?

A: Been kicked off quite a few tracks the last couple days, but I've made it work. I'm planning on running some time trials with some other local guys.

Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?

A: I've picked up some extra shifts at work and spent more time with my girlfriend

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?

A: I'm gonna have to cheat and give two answers here. Winning city as a team my junior year was super fun because it was so close we didn't know if we'd done it until they actually announced it, and it was our first boys city championship in over 50 years. Going 1-2 with Jack Walsh at regionals this year was also really special. We'd talked about it since I moved to Wichita as a Sophomore, and to actually make it happen was the culmination of a lot of work.

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

A: Dale tripping over a log and penguin sliding 20 feet across the grass was pretty classic

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

A: Jack and I have always had a really healthy rivalry. We had a good balance of competing and making each other better, while simultaneously being excited for the other's success.

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: Winning back to back team city and regional championships

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

A: Just remember to have fun with it. There were times I got so engrossed in winning that I forgot what really makes it fun

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

A: I had this weird thing where I would get really sick like halfway through XC season every year

Q: What will you miss the most?

A: Teammates

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

A:Find the balance between working hard and having fun. I had times where I forgot to have fun, but I also think it's going to be a lot more fulfilling if you know you're giving 100%

Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?

A: Doc always did a good job of getting us ready to run our best when it counted. If you look at early season times, our team doesn't really jump off the page, but we're ready to rock and roll when the big meets come around

Q: What are your college plans?

A: I'm going to major in political science at the University of St. Mary, and I'll run there as well

Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

A: Parents, Coaches, Teammates

Q: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

A: Both my 3200 and 1600 PRs have been run in time trials :(  10:07 and 4:40

Q: Favorite Meal?

A: Cincinnati Chili

Q: If you could be any animal what would you choose? and why?

A: Probably a Fox, just seems neat

Q: Your favorite superhero?

A: Spiderman
