We Salute Hollie Marlow, Parsons High School

Name:Hollie Marlow

School: Parsons High School

Q: What does your training look like right now given the current situation?

A: Currently, I have been continuing to hit the track to run and/or lift weights when possible

Q: What are you doing to stay busy other than run right now?

A: To stay busy, I have been spending time with family, going to work, and just taking advantage of the time to relax a bit

Q: What was your most memorable race/moment?

A: My favorite race memory is qualifying for state with my 4x400m team each year. After the race would get over, we would all run to each other and celebrate! Qualifying in individual events is so special, but there is something so much more fun about qualifying with a relay!

Q: What was the funniest thing that happened during your running career?

A: My first track race ever I twisted my ankle warming up before the 400m. I attempted the race anyway, but decided mid-race I couldn't finish. I was running in lane two and turned towards the field to quit. Apparently the girl in lane one was behind me in the race, so when I turned to the field I collided into her. This all happened right in front of where my school was sitting as well. Not one of my brightest moments haha!

Q: Who would you consider your biggest competition over your four years?

A: My biggest competition over the years were probably my own teammates. I mean, we pretty much raced everyday at practice and pushed each other to the limits every single day!

Q: What was your greatest accomplishment?

A: my biggest accomplishment is qualifying for state all three years, and medaling two out of the three years!

Q: If you could do it all over again what would you change about your running career in high school?

A: I would probably try to improve my mentality. I was very hard on myself, which lead to more pressure than I needed. Overall though, I wouldn't change a thing!

Q: What were the most difficult obstacles you had to overcome?

A: The biggest obstacle I had to overcome was myself. I definitely got myself worked up before races due to nerves. I feel like if I could have relaxed a bit more, I could have had some stronger races.

Q: What will you miss the most?

A: My team and coaches. When I found out we wouldn't be getting a last year to run together, it was really hard and still is. I love my team so much!

Q: What advice would you give to younger athletes?

A: I would tell them to focus in on their goals and put in extra practice time to achieve them.  While focusing on their goals, they also need to focus on having fun and making memories with their team!

Q: What kind of an impact has your coach had on you and your team?

A: My coach is Rob Barcus. Barcus has has the biggest impact on me and my team. He encouraged me to continue track into high school and helped me in so many ways, both on and off the track. My coach is one of the most influential people in my life. I am really going to miss running for his team!

Q: What are your college plans?

A: Next year, I will be continuing my running career at Emporia State University and majoring in physical education!

Q: Who would you like to say 'thank you' to?

A: I would like to thank my mom for being my biggest cheerleader. My dad for working out with me and timing me during weekend workouts. My coaches for believing in me and bringing me to where I am today. And my teammates for all of the hilarious memories and for making all the practices and conditioning a bit more bearable!

Q: Favorite Meal?

A: Pasta and fruit :)

Q: If you could be any animal what would you choose? and why?

A: Elephant! I have always loved elephants and I just think they are pretty cool

Q: Your favorite superhero?

A: The Flash, Hulk, or Black Panther
