Bishop Miege sophomore Ashanti Hutton is no stranger to running fast. She pulled away from defending Missouri Class 4 state champion Whitney Adams of Francis Howell in the 400-meter dash at Saturday’s Kansas Relays to win in 55.72. “I just wanted to work on getting out and work on my form and get my technique down so I can run it at state and know what to do,” Hutton said. “I’m a little behind because of the weather, but I think that was a great performance. I do have a lot of things to improve on. I’m excited about the time, but I can do better.” It did not quite match her PR of 55.72, which set a Kansas 5A state record last year, but it is the top time in Kansas this year and one of the top 40 times in the country. Hutton also posted a season-best time of 12.35 for fifth in the 100. Adams finished second in the 400 with a 55.81, which is her fastest time this spring. Hazelwood Central’s Marcus Davis won the boys 400 in 48.74 for a new PR and the fastest time in Missouri this spring. |
