Sierra Maddox moved into the record books in 2013 as the Jackson junior won the Missouri Class 4 State pole vault title with a 12-6 clearance to move to second on the all-time state meet list, and put her among just a few girls in the state to ever go higher than 12-feet. Maddox will head to South Dakota and try to add some All-American honors and maybe a national title to her resume like former Missouri state champ, Rockwood Summit grad and South Dakota senior Bethany (Buell) Firsick. Like Firsick and many of the other top women vaulters, Maddox was a long-time gymnast who reached level 9 before becoming a successful vaulter. Maddox battled cool conditions and winds to earn the victory Saturday March 29, at the 2014 Festus Early Bird Track and Field Invitational. Maddox cleared 11-6 to win by a foot and a half early in the season.
