Jackson senior Clay Darnell is shooting to cap his career with a state title in the discus after 5th and 6th place finishes the last two years. Saturday, Darnell threw for an 8-foot personal best to win the discus with a mark of 173-4 at the 2014 Festus Early Bird Track and Field Invitational. The mark put him 38th on the national boys performance list early in the season. Darnell is hoping to make it two consecutive state champions in the disc for Coach Rushin, as Paden Wachter captured the Class 4 girls discus title last spring before heading to compete for Lindenwood University.
