Bolles Sophomore Laine Roberts Soars 12'3.5" In Pole Vault Opener

Bolles sophomore Laine Roberts finished as the 2A runner-up in the girl's pole vault at the 2017 state championships. Since then, she's putting in work with her Jacksonville Athletic Club teammates and adding more 12'0 jumps to her resume. In her 2018 season debut at the Bolles Pre-Season Mini Meet she cleared a personal best 3.75m or 12'3.5".

"She was going from a short approach (5 lefts) as she is also vaulting on Saturday in the mall vault," said Coach Eli Sunquist. "She came in at a lower height than normal and we were just really using this meet as a normal Thursday short approach practice."

He added that she takes a lot of jumps in practice so that was the thinking of coming in at a lower height. Roberts was clean up until 3.75m and had some great attempts at 3.85m (12'7.5") which would have been a new Bolles School record.

It's crazy the difference a year makes.

"Last year at this meet she jumped 10'2 from a full approach (which was her opening height yesterday," he said. "So we are very excited to see how she progresses this season."
