Weekend in Review May 1st-7th

Well, maybe Missouri is now cursed from the weather because I am the webmaster for our great state. It was more than a rough weekend for the Show-Me. For those of us, that just had to be worried about delayed track meets could count ourselves. Hundreds of thousands of Missourians went without power, travel, and other basics in life for days. Even as the waters return to their normal levels the damage remains and difficult of our big family. I ask you reach out and be there for those in the long haul.

In our small world of track last week was supposed to everyone's conference championships or class 1 and 2's district championships. I am putting a call out to all the class 1 and 2 coaches who won district titles to please contact me as I would like to interview them about their team title. For those teams that placed their conference meets in the traditional Friday and Saturday spots have great conditions. A number tracks also saw massive PRs due to heavy tailwinds that lasted until nightfall. For those that had their meet canceled due to the weather had a second chance to lay down major performances at the Lutheran South meet.

Traditionally, the Lutheran South meet is the last chance meet for medium-sized schools and private schools that are not a part of the large public school suburban conferences. Due to its last chance nature, the meet is usually home to a number of great performances. The 2017 version of Lutheran South Invite was again a success. Rock Bridge along with MICDS took home the boy's and girl's titles respectively. On the men's side the meet was highlighted by a Missouri number 1 in the 800 meter run by Brandon Miller. Brandon won the event wire to wire in something that looked like a crazy time trial. The only thing that can stop him from winning state will be himself. In the 300IH Jameson Williams continued his strong season by blasting through the 38-second barrier running an outrageous 37.70 FAT. On the woman's side, Aisha Southern of Hazelwood Central laid down a nasty 14.69 before she went out and blasted a 12.25 100 meter dash a few moments later.

In other news, Rayvon keeps pushing his cross-state rivalry with Papay. Both are now over the 50-0 foot barrier and have a real shot at crushing the state record. Rayvon took back his number 1 spot with a series of jumps landing him into the pit nearly 51 feet later. In the discus, Devin Roberson spun and flung his plate out over the 183-4 feet for the state capital's team. This throw rankings him as the 4th best sophomore in the entire United States!!!

Across the state, on the girl's side, Erin Sermons looks like the strongest quarter miler in the state. The senior can only be slowed by the fatigue in her legs as the Lee's Summit West team goes for another state title. In the same conference meet Victoria Findley tickled the sub-five-minute barrier a breath away at 5:00.17. Look for her to dive way under that time as her coaches begin to taper Tori's training. Lee's Summit West do everything thrower continues to defy gravity all season long launching another discus over 159-4 feet. Summit West's 4x400 put an explanation point running a 3:51.07 in the relay. It is a distinct possibility the relay could remove the state record from the hand's of super squad McCluer South-Berkeley High school of 2007.
