Wando's Kenny Waring talks about choosing Coffeyville and goals this season.

What made you decide to commit to Coffeyville?
One of my teammates Angelica Collins is at Coffeyville now, that is what first sparked my interest. I have also been to Kansas and competed there before in 2011 for nationals. I really enjoyed my time in Kansas. The coaches at Coffeyville are serious and focused on the events that I excel in. I think they can help me flourish as a track and field athlete. Coffeyville is also allowing me the opportunity to play football as well.

What were your other top choices?
Butler CC, Lenoir-Rhyne and S.C. State.

What do you hope to achieve in academics and athletics?
I hope to focus on my academics when I get to Coffeyville to put myself in a good situation to sign a Division 1 scholarship after my time at Coffeyville.

Signings list

What did you experience during each visit?
I am visiting in March but got the information I need from Angelica and my coaches who worked closely with the track and football coaches at Coffeyville before I made my decision.

What does it feel like to have the decision made?
I feel relieved and excited that I found a place that will allow me to pursue my dreams of earning a college degree and competing in both the sports that I love. I am a little nervous about being far from hope at the same time it allows me to grow as a young man doing things and making decisions on my own. Overall I am very excited about the big future ahead of me.

What do you hope to achieve this spring?
To win the 100, 4x100, long jump and 4x400, but most importantly we are focused as a group to win the team championship!!

Looking at your career at Wando, what will you remember the most?
When I won state as a freshman with a 10.70 and long jumped 23'9" as a freshman and was slotted first in the nation for my age at the time. Also winning state last year in the long jump and winning the 4x100 with my teammates. I also have fond memories of football especially when I took over as the lead back at Wando my sophomore year. I will miss my coaches and teammates.

What individuals in your life were involved in helping you make the decision?
My track coach, Coach Shiver, my football coach, Coach Noonan, my mother, and my mentor. Ultimately it was my decision and am very excited about what the next chapter of my life has to offer.
