Wittenberg

Two of the country's premier sprint talents, Koy Beasley and Jamier Averette-Brown, had a pair of spirited battles at the FinishTiming Team Championships, as they went head-to-head in the 60 and the 200.

The duo split the contests with LaSalle's Beasley producing a 6.72 60 win for an OH No. 1 / US No. 2 while the freshman phenom from Wayne Averette-Brown trailed closely behind in 6.78.

He resides at OH No. 2 / US tie for No. 6 due to a previous performance this season (6.76 at the University of Michigan).

In the 200, Averette-Brown got the upper hand winning in 21.37 for the country's top mark among freshmen competitors (US No. 9 overall).

Beasley, a senior, secured the runner-up spot with a US No. 40 mark of 21.79.

Hugh Jacobsmeyer made his indoor season debut winning the 800 in a new Ohio No. 1 time of 1:55.53.

After racing sparingly over the XC campaign, where he lined-up three times on the grass for Olentangy, Jacobsmeyer looked razor-sharp in his 2024 opener.

Last outdoor season, the now senior appeared at the OHSAA Division I State Championships, the New Balance Nationals meet and produced an outstanding PR of 1:52.13 at Region 3 - Pickerington North

SPIRE

He's been a staple in our '24 State Scoop Series and you can chalk up the latest performances as Dillon Morlock doing 'Dillon Morlock like things'

The senior thrower from Norwayne has an unmatched body of work in the Ohio circles this season.

Morlock's latest spectacular efforts consisted of a US No. 3 weight mark of 73-1 and a 61-7 showing in the shot for a pair of victories.

The Michigan State signee resides at No. 2 nationally in the shot put via a 66-4.5 toss at Kent State last month.

The club team Plus 2 University based out of the Columbus area launched themselves into the top spot of Ohio's overall (non-divisional) rankings with a 1st place 1:27.97 clocking in the 4x200 meter relay.

Representing the squad were: Okiki Adeniyi, Jaeden Ricketts, Mason Coffman and Micah Coates

On the heels of a mic-drop like bell lap, Westerville North senior Ben Gabelman cruised to the 1600 meter win at SPIRE in a state best mark of 4:12.45.

The Syracuse signee has only raced three times this season, but they've all been impressive. His additional efforts are a 9:05.27 3200 win at Wittenberg and a 4:18.52 3rd place showing at MSTCA, where he contested the full imperial mile distance.

Michael Middleton put himself into the national quarter-mile conversation with a 47.58 triumph. His performance earned him the meet title, the state lead at the distance and a spot in the No. 4 position nation-wide.

The Cleveland Heights senior's post-race celebration was caught on film by our mega-talented reporter David Nguyen
